Preparation for an ultrasound examination depends on the specific type of USG. For an abdominal ultrasound, we recommend arriving fasting, ideally 6 to 8 hours before the examination, and avoiding carbonated drinks and heavy meals. For ultrasound examinations of the kidneys and urinary bladder, a full bladder is required, so we recommend drinking approximately 1 to 1.5 liters of water about one hour before the examination. No special preparation is needed for ultrasound examinations of the thyroid gland, neck, soft tissues, lymph nodes, or salivary glands.

The doctor applies gel to the skin and uses an ultrasound probe to observe the examined area on the screen in real time. Standard ultrasound examinations usually take about 10 to 15 minutes, while more complex or Doppler examinations typically last 20 to 30 minutes. During the examination, the doctor may explain the findings to you step by step.
