Whenever it is necessary to accurately assess the function of the venous valves, the patency of the veins and the extent of the disease — that is, when varicose veins are suspected and before planning a procedure. Without ultrasound, modern varicose vein treatment cannot be planned safely.
The examination takes place in three steps. First, a conversation about your concerns and previous treatment, then an assessment of the legs both standing and lying down and, if needed, a duplex ultrasound of the veins. Finally, Vasilii Bulatov explains the findings and proposes the next steps — whether monitoring, compression therapy or a procedure. No preparation is required and the examination is outpatient.
No. Vasilii Bulatov decides on the suitability of endovenous laser ablation based on the ultrasound findings, the type and diameter of the affected vein and the patient's overall state of health. Sometimes foam sclerotherapy, miniphlebectomy or a conservative approach is more appropriate. You will receive a precise recommendation after an in-person examination.
They differ in the target vein. Sclerotherapy, including ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, treats larger, functionally affected veins and the venous disease itself. Microsclerotherapy targets fine vessels and spider veins, mainly for aesthetic reasons. The principle is similar — a substance is injected into the vein to close it — but the concentration and technique differ. The doctor determines the appropriate method after an examination.
Bring any medical reports, the results of previous ultrasound scans, a list of your medications and information about any allergies. If you have already had a procedure on varicose veins, bring its documentation as well. Comfortable clothing will make it easier to examine the whole legs.
