What we focus on in phlebology
At our phlebology clinic we treat varicose veins, spider veins, swelling and heaviness of the legs, as well as chronic venous insufficiency. Examination and treatment are led by phlebologist and vascular surgeon Vasilii Bulatov using duplex ultrasound diagnostics of the veins. Procedures such as EVLA, foam sclerotherapy and miniphlebectomy are performed minimally invasively and on an outpatient basis. The aim is to relieve symptoms and support the health of the lower limbs.

Price list: phlebology examination and procedures
We are a private clinic, so you pay for the examination and procedures directly at the clinic and do not need a referral. The price depends on the extent of the findings and the chosen method, for example laser, sclerotherapy or miniphlebectomy. Below we list approximate prices for selected procedures; the exact amount will be confirmed by the phlebologist after the ultrasound examination. V roku 2015 obhájil dizertačnú prácu o endovenóznej laserovej liečbe kŕčových žíl u starších pacientov a získal vedeckú hodnosť CSc.
He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, spider veins, and chronic venous insufficiency. During examinations, he utilizes duplex ultrasound diagnostics of the veins, and for treatment, he employs minimally invasive methods such as EVLA, ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy, microsclerotherapy, and miniphlebectomy, always based on the ultrasound findings. In Slovakia, he worked as a surgeon at the Pentahospitals clinic in Dunajská Streda and as a phlebologist at the HMC clinic in Bratislava. In 2023, he completed the nostrification of his medical diploma and the professional examination in Slovakia. He is a member of the International Union of Phlebology (UIP). He communicates with patients in Slovak and Russian.
When to see a phlebologist and which symptoms we treat
- Visible protruding, twisted or thickened varicose veins on the legs that gradually enlarge.
- Spider veins — fine red or blue dilated vessels on the thighs, calves and ankles.
- Swelling of the legs and ankles, heaviness or a feeling of tired legs towards the end of the day, after prolonged standing or sitting.
- Pain, burning or nighttime cramps in the calves that worsen with prolonged standing, sitting or in the heat.
- Itching, dry skin or brownish discolouration of the skin around the ankles and lower legs in cases of varicose veins.

Frequently asked questions about phlebology and varicose veins
Which doctor treats varicose veins?
Varicose veins are treated by a phlebologist or, where relevant, a vascular surgeon. At the Dermarevolta clinic, veins are cared for by phlebologist and vascular surgeon Vasilii Bulatov, who performs an ultrasound examination and proposes treatment. You do not need a referral from a general practitioner and can book directly.
What causes varicose veins?
Varicose veins develop when the valves in the veins stop working properly and blood pools in the legs instead of flowing up towards the heart. The most common causes include heredity, prolonged standing or sitting, excess weight, pregnancy and age. Under pressure, the vein widens, lengthens and becomes visible. It is usually a combination of several factors at once.
How can varicose veins be removed?
Today varicose veins can be removed in a minimally invasive way, without major surgery. The phlebologist chooses the appropriate method based on the ultrasound findings:
- EVLA, laser closure of the damaged saphenous vein,
- ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy,
- microsclerotherapy and laser removal of spider veins,
- miniphlebectomy, removal of varicose veins through tiny punctures.
Most procedures are outpatient and performed under local anaesthesia, so you quickly return to everyday life. The treatment is complemented by compression and venotonics.
How much does varicose vein removal cost?
The price depends on the method and the extent of the findings. An initial examination by the phlebologist costs €65, or €105 with duplex ultrasound of the leg veins. Foam sclerotherapy starts from €200, miniphlebectomy from €150 and EVLA laser ablation from €720. The exact amount will be confirmed by the phlebologist after the ultrasound examination, as it depends on the number and size of the affected veins.
Can varicose veins be removed without surgery?
Yes, most varicose veins today are treated without classic surgery. Minimally invasive methods such as EVLA laser ablation or foam sclerotherapy close the diseased vein without incisions and without hospitalisation. Classic surgery is now rather the exception, used for extensive findings.
Are varicose veins dangerous?
Varicose veins are usually not acutely dangerous, but they are not merely a cosmetic problem either. If left untreated, the disease worsens and can lead to swelling, vein inflammation, the formation of clots or a venous leg ulcer. A warning sign is sudden pain, redness and a hard, painful vein, which may indicate inflammation or thrombosis and requires prompt medical attention.
Will varicose veins come back after the procedure?
The treated vein closes and the body gradually absorbs it, so that particular varicose vein does not return. However, venous disease is chronic, so over time new veins may appear elsewhere, especially with a hereditary predisposition. The risk is reduced by compression, exercise and regular check-ups with a phlebologist. That is why, at the Dermarevolta clinic, treatment also includes monitoring and the prevention of recurrence.
