Laser removal of varicose veins, medically known as endovenous laser ablation (EVLA), closes the damaged vein from within using laser heat and clears varicose veins without large incisions. It is one of the gentlest modern methods of treating varicose veins. What laser procedures for varicose veins we perform
Laser treatment is currently the gentlest method for removing varicose veins. We choose the specific approach according to which veins are affected and the extent of the findings on duplex ultrasound, always tailoring it to your legs. EVLA of a single trunk vein
Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) closes a single damaged trunk vein in the leg using laser heat from within. Blood is redirected into healthy veins. It is the most common laser procedure for varicose veins and is performed on an outpatient basis through a small puncture.
EVLA of two or three trunk veins
Laser treatment of two or three trunk veins in one leg during a single procedure. Suitable for more extensive disease, when reflux affects several veins at once, saving time and shortening the patient's recovery.
EVLO of a perforator vein
Endovenous laser obliteration (EVLO) is a targeted laser closure of an incompetent perforator (connecting) vein, which links the superficial and deep venous systems. It addresses the source of reflux and recurrent varicose veins that treatment of the trunk vein alone would not resolve.
Total EVLO
A comprehensive laser treatment for extensive disease, when several trunk and perforator veins need to be closed at the same time. A suitable alternative to major conventional surgery in advanced stages of varicose veins.
Consultation and duplex ultrasound
An initial consultation with a duplex ultrasound examination of the veins. We map blood flow, detect reflux and determine precisely which veins need treatment and with which laser. We do not perform laser treatment without this step.
Combination with microphlebectomy
For larger side-branch varicose veins, we combine laser treatment with microphlebectomy, that is, removal of the veins through tiny punctures. In a single session, we can treat both the trunk vein and the visible varicose veins, improving the aesthetic result.

The price of laser removal of varicose veins depends on the number and extent of veins treated, so it can only be determined precisely after an ultrasound examination. We are a private clinic, and patients pay for laser ablation as a private procedure. An initial consultation with a phlebologist costs €65, or €105 including venous ultrasound. He completed his medical studies in 2007 and trained in general and cardiovascular surgery. In 2015, he obtained a CSc. scientific degree, with his dissertation focused on laser treatment of varicose veins.
He specialises in minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins, particularly EVLA laser ablation, foam sclerotherapy and microphlebectomy. Before every procedure, he performs duplex ultrasound diagnostics, which guides his choice of method and extent of treatment. He is a member of the International Union of Phlebology (UIP) and communicates in Slovak and Russian.

An initial phlebology consultation costs €65, or €105 with venous ultrasound. The exact price is confirmed by the phlebologist after the ultrasound examination, as it depends on the number and extent of the affected veins.
During EVLA, the phlebologist inserts a thin laser fibre into the vein through a small puncture under ultrasound guidance, then slowly withdraws it while the laser seals the vein wall. Before the procedure, tumescent anaesthesia is applied to numb the area and protect the surrounding tissue. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and usually takes less than an hour. After a short rest and application of compression, you go home.
Laser varicose vein removal is almost painless and does not require general anaesthesia. The procedure is performed under local or tumescent anaesthesia, so you feel only mild pressure during it. After EVLA, the leg may be tender for a few days and a compression stocking is worn, but the pain is usually mild and manageable.
Recovery after EVLA is short, and you can usually return to everyday activities within a few days. It's recommended to wear a compression stocking, walk sufficiently and avoid strenuous exertion, saunas and prolonged standing for a few days. The vein closes off immediately, but it takes weeks to months for it to be fully absorbed by the body.

Patients usually pay for EVLA laser ablation as a private procedure, as modern minimally invasive methods are generally not covered by public health insurance. Some conventional surgical procedures for varicose veins may be covered by insurance elsewhere. At Dermarevolta clinic, you pay for the procedure directly at the clinic according to the price list.
A vein treated with laser closes off and is absorbed by the body, so the specific varicose vein will not return. However, venous disease is chronic, so new varicose veins may appear elsewhere over time, especially with a genetic predisposition. The risk can be reduced with compression, physical activity and regular check-ups with a phlebologist.
