Procedures we perform

Although skin fibromas are usually harmless skin growths, accurate diagnosis is important before any removal. That is why every procedure at the Dermarevolta clinic is preceded by a specialist examination. Its aim is to assess the nature of the skin growth and rule out other conditions, such as viral warts, pigmented naevi or high-risk skin lesions. Skin fibromas are then removed using electrocautery or the Surgitron device. These techniques allow a gentle approach to the surrounding tissue and contribute to a favourable aesthetic result as well as smooth healing.

Specialist diagnosis

The doctor examines the growths in detail using a digital dermatoscope and assesses their nature, so we can be sure the procedure is safe for you.

Electrocoagulation (electrocautery)

Rapid removal of small fibromas, resulting in only a small scab with minimal bleeding.

Radiofrequency method (Surgitron)

This gentle radiofrequency removal is suitable for pedunculated growths on the neck and face, and does not leave noticeable scars.

Surgical removal

We use classic scalpel excision for suspicious growths and firm dermatofibromas. This allows the growth to be removed completely, within healthy tissue.

Local anaesthesia

We remove small growths quickly and with virtually no pain. For larger ones, we apply local anaesthesia to make the procedure more comfortable.

Aftercare and histology

If the findings require it, we send the sample for histological analysis. After the procedure, we explain how to care for the area and why it should be protected from the sun (SPF 50+).

Price list for skin fibroma removal

The cost of removing skin fibromas depends on their number, size, location on the body and the method chosen. Our dermatologist will calculate the exact price for you after an initial consultation. If medically necessary, a histological examination will be added to the price. If you are bothered by several small growths, we can arrange the removal of multiple fibromas at once during a single visit.

„Pri odstraňovaní fibrómov je dôležité najskôr dermatoskopom potvrdiť nezhubný charakter útvaru a až potom zvoliť metódu, ktorá je zdravotne bezpečná a zároveň šetrná ku koži.

When is removing fibromas the right choice?

  • Skin-tag growths on the neck or underarms keep catching uncomfortably on collars and clothing.
  • Soft skin growths get in the way significantly during everyday shaving or when wearing jewellery.
  • Fibromas bleed, itch and occasionally become inflamed after mechanical irritation (for example, during sport).
  • Skin tags cause you an aesthetic concern and discomfort in visible areas of the body.
  • You have a more extensive outbreak of small skin nodules and want several fibromas removed quickly in one session.
  • You’re not sure whether it’s a harmless fibroma, a wart or a suspicious mole, and you need a doctor’s assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about fibromas and their removal (FAQ)

Fibromas, medically known as fibroma molle pendulum (soft skin growths), are benign formations of connective tissue. They usually match the colour of the surrounding skin, or may be slightly pigmented. They most commonly develop in areas of increased friction (the neck, underarms, under the breasts, groin). Their formation is influenced by mechanical irritation, genetic predisposition, older age, as well as hormonal changes or insulin resistance.
Without a professional examination, it can be difficult to distinguish a soft skin tag from a viral wart or another type of mole. While a skin tag is generally a harmless skin growth, a wart has an infectious origin, and certain types of moles need to be monitored regularly. Before considering removal, it is therefore advisable to have the lesion examined by a dermatologist. Using a dermatoscope, the doctor will examine the growth in detail and help establish an accurate diagnosis.
Various over-the-counter products for home use are available in pharmacies, but from a medical point of view this approach is generally not recommended. Unprofessional handling, cutting or attempts at cauterisation carries a risk of infection, bleeding or unwanted scarring. There is also a risk that, without a prior medical examination, another type of skin lesion requiring a different medical approach could be unintentionally irritated.
The approach is chosen individually based on a professional examination. To remove small, soft growths, our Bratislava clinic most commonly uses electrocautery (electrocoagulation) or the Surgitron device (radiofrequency method). These devices allow for a gentle removal of the growths. For deeper lesions or where another type of growth is suspected, the doctor will usually recommend surgical removal followed by histological examination.
The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. When removing small pedunculated growths with electrocautery, treatment is quick and the patient may feel only a slight pinch. For larger growths, more numerous growths, or in more sensitive areas, local anaesthesia is usually applied after consultation with the doctor. The aim is to minimise discomfort and ensure the patient is as comfortable as possible during the procedure.
When removing soft skin tags using devices such as the Surgitron or electrocautery, the utmost care is taken to be as gentle as possible on the surrounding tissue. A small scab typically forms at the treatment site. After it falls off naturally, temporary post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (a small patch of discolouration) may appear on the skin, which usually fades gradually over time. To achieve a favourable aesthetic outcome, it is important not to disturb the scab and, once healed, to protect the skin with a high-factor sunscreen (SPF 50+).
